The Tom Thomson Art Gallery, a public institution, was established to celebrate the artistic legacy of the world-famous artist, Tom Thomson, who grew up in the area.

Here, in Owen Sound, is housed the third largest collection of Thomson's work. Thomson memorabilia is included in gallery's the permanent collection, as is the work of historical and contemporary artists. The gallery focuses on the work of regional artists.

The present gallery opened its doors in May 1967.
